Doing it Right

I’d like to formally request that everyone spend at least five minutes flipping through the thousands-many delightfully inspirational posts at NotCot.org. And, as always, if you don’t have time, we here at Dogmic will keep you informed of the absolutely-must-see gems of the design world.

The brilliance of NotCot.org is that proper design permeates all culture. NotCot has directed me to hundreds of interesting articles, advertisements, and announcements about everything from exotic, micro motel rooms constructed inside gargantuan, unused-for-decades drain pipes, in Germany and in Mexico, a post-Kubrickian circular, hamster-wheel-bookshelf, the new Coca-Cola cans, Grand Theft Auto V, or a myriad posts on drinking done right and carried well.

I was going to end the post there, but man oh man you need to see the hamster-wheel-bookcase!

  1. I feel that my participation in this discussion is greatly swayed by my obvious Batman bias and infrequent drinking.
I look forward to watching the discussion from afar and silently judging those who are wrong.

  2. You guys must not have read any of the content in those links…
    Ahem…

“Whisky is a complex spirit with a range of flavors; often, people have an experience with one variety and dismiss the whole spirit. The Macallan recognizes that introducing whisky to some people requires a bit of eduction, and happened upon an idea that is really quite clever. Knowing that smell is such an important element in taste, they thought it would be an interesting experiment to teach people about the flavors of whisky. The Macallan’s partnership with celebrated British perfumer Roja Dove created an olfactory experience to do just that, and the result is a Scottish take on the Japanese Kōdō ceremony, which celebrates the art and customs of incense.”

    Let’s break it down.
Complex spirit with a range of flavors, much like Batman.
People have an experience with one variety (of Batman) and dismiss the whole spirit. Happens all the time.
Introducing Whisky and Batman to some people requires a bit of education. Case in point, Kosmo didn’t know that Bane is not a luchador.
Smell is such an important element in taste. Ok. Not at all related to Batman.
A Scottish take on the Japanese Kodo ceremony, which celebrates the art and customs of incense. … Bruce Wayne is a Scottish-American ninja.

This is better than Batman. If Macallan were a comics publisher interested in doing Batman as well as they do whisky, I might actually be a Batman fan.

And this is just one post from NotCot. If NotCot were a comics publisher, and all of their Batman issues were as good as all of their posts about design, I might be a Batman fan.

NotCot enriches my life. Batman retards literary scholarship and perverts philosophical discourse.

The question is not whether this is better than Batman, but whether that category is too vast.
