Rube Herscher

In case you missed it, this is a hilarious Rube Goldberg machine.

I’ve determined that creative currency in these machines doubles with each non-reusable item. For example, you get a point for each over-complicated step in the machine, but that point doubles if the step shatters one of the necessary pieces. You get three points if the item shatters unnecessarily.

In the famous OK Go video, they broke a lot of things–like the television–that didn’t need to be broken, but also weren’t part of the machine. You get double points for that, not triple.

Mr Herscher, by these rules, is the forerunner. The glass that breaks is necessary for the functionality of the machine and it could have easily been saved and reset for each take. But that machine would have been slightly less delightful.
